Description:
Luther North College Prep, located in Chicago, Illinois, is seeking outstanding educators who will help the institution achieve its mission to enable students to reach their potential and to become lifelong learners through a challenging academic curriculum in a Christ-centered, diverse learning community. Summer school teachers have the responsibility to help students develop skills and knowledge consistent with the school’s curriculum and goals. They are to maintain a classroom climate which nurtures and supports the learning environment. Teachers are responsible for the students assigned to their classes throughout the three week period. They are to communicate student academic and behavioral progress to parents and the Summer School Director and keep accurate attendance records in compliance with the Luther North College Prep Summer School guidelines. Teachers should expect to work with students seeking credit recovery as well as those seeking summer enrichment and progress.
This is a three week teaching position starting July 8, 2013. Morning summer school classes meet from 7:45 am to 12:05 pm. Afternoon summer school classes meet from 12:30 pm to 4:50 pm. Luther North College Prep reserves the right to cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment. There will be positions available in the following areas:
1. Algebra I, Semester 1
2. Algebra I, Semester 2
3. Geometry Semester 1
4. Geometry Semester 2
5. Computer Applications
6. Biology Semester 1
7. Biology Semester 2
8. Consumer Economics
9. U.S. History 1
10. U.S. History 2
Job Summary:
1. Provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual and academic development and growth
2. Develops and implements lessons for the curriculum program and subject area assigned that are consistent with Luther North College Prep mission and vision
3. Presents the subject matter according to guidelines established by Luther North College Prep
4. Plans and uses appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect differentiation within an environment that meets for 60 hours of instruction over a three week summer period
5. Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students
6. Manages student behaviors in the classroom and other areas as appropriate and administers discipline procedures according to the policies of Luther North College Prep
7. Establishes and maintains communication with students, their parents, other faculty members, and the summer school administration
8. Demonstrates current knowledge, understanding, and skill in teaching strategies and the learning process
9. Demonstrates interest and initiative in the subject area
10. Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
Qualifications Desired for Position:
Candidates will be considered based on the following
• Valid Illinois teaching certificate for subject/level assigned
• Valid Illinois substitute teaching certificate
• Bachelor’s Degree
