He currently serves LNCP as athletic director, science department chairperson, as well as continuing with teaching and coaching duties.
I chose teaching and coaching because I had many excellent teachers and coaches in my life. In particular, my high school biology teacher and cross country coach (Mr. Mertens) had a particularly strong influence on my life and career path. He was someone I always looked up to and tried to emulate. He was intelligent, a great motivator, and a wonderful Christian person. I also had a unique set of experiences in college that helped mold me as a coach. I ran cross country and track in college for 4 years and had 6 different head coaches during that period. Even though at the time I was upset at having little continuity in my coaching, I later realized the plan God had for me, as it gave me a wide range of coaching styles to observe and learn from, which in turn helped me mold my own coaching style."
